Description

Electrolyte balance or strong ion difference has been shown to play a major role on blood biochemical values and performance. In practice feeds with the same electrolyte balance can have different effects in different farms. This study was devised to see if water electrolyte balance could have an additive effect on feed electrolyte balance and blood biochemical parameters. Changes in metabolic acidosis or alkalosis can limit birds in the respiratory compensation ability. It is concluded that knowing water composition in stong ions (Na,K and Cl) can help veterinarians improve health and performance of broiler chickens.
